big//little sister breakfast
this morning was a fun saturday morning!
many of the "big" and "little" sisters of the big//little sister ministry that i am a part of gathered in my little apartment for a breakfast and fellowship this morning, and i am exited to share some of the memories with you all, my bloggin' sistas :)
i spoke about the big//sister ministry here. in short, this a new ministry that a core group of 20-something women and i prayerfully thought of because we all feel it is so important for pre-teen and teen girls to feel they have a big sister they can talk to. we are, after all, daughters of the Almighty Father and sisters of our Savior Big Brother Jesus, which makes us sisters . . . so it's about time we start acting like it! each of the big sisters (there are about 17 of us so far, i think) is paired up with a "little sister" with whom she pursues in friendship by praying, encouraging, + meeting up with their sister once a month. together, we walk together + grow in our knowledge of our faithful and loving Father.

it was so fun seeing the pairs of "sisters" laughing + chatting!
here is a group photo (sans a few girls that had to leave early)
it was so great to hang-out with these fabulous ladies + watch new friendships be made.
i look forward to more sister adventures as the holidays roll around!
What an awesome way to serve those young girls! It's so cool that you do this! =)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, it's a blessing for us "big sisters" as well! It keeps us young ;-) I wish I could have had a "big sister" when I was that age. I listened to so many of the enemy's lies and tricks and kept so much to myself instead of trusting other godly women. I hope these girls feel an transparency and trust so that they can share what is on their hearts and minds, and so any lies or tricks of the enemy can be battled with God's truth and prayer. Plus, it's a great excuse for yummy desserts :-))
DeleteWhat an amazing ministry you have for the younger girls. I'm sure you're making an eternal impact in their lives.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susannah! That's my heart's prayer! I hope that anything I say or do would not point these "little sisters" to me, but to Jesus! Us "older" sisters are definitely not perfect and we deal with our own sin as well, but God has graciously opened this opportunity to come alongside these girls and walk through the stressful issues of middle and high school together, because I remember that time being crazy complicated, especially since I did not have older sisters to guide me through those years.
DeleteYou are the cutest!! What an awesome thing you have going there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Angela! It was a fun breakfast and so great to see these girls all chit-chat and get to known one another other than just passing by each other at church.
DeleteLoved seeing all the pics! I left you a comment about praying for a way to minister to younger girls what seems like forever ago, & recently we started a young women's group at my church & we are thinking about starting something similar to your "sister" group! Just wanted to give you that update & seek your continued prayer on that!
ReplyDeleteLove ya!
